Puppies went for their first walk on the leash today! There were so many new things to see and smell! It was fun, fun, fun:) They are doing much better eating in their own crates now, they just need to get better at spending time in their own crate when there's no food in there:) We will practice some more with their new Kong toys with Peanutbutter in them. More pictures of the little cuties soon.

Puppies almost 6 weeks!

We have graduated to plain soaked kibble now! No more crushing or mashing our food, we are big boys now! We wanted to go outside again this afternoon but it's raining and hailing out, yuck!:(

We are learning to eat in our crates now, hopefully soon we will be sleeping in them at night. We sleep in a crate together with the door opened but we will get our own crate and learn to have the door closed.

Oh, it's nap time again, zzzzzzzzz!

Beware of this online puppy brokerage

This particular website is a puppy brokerage. The brokerage gets their puppies from puppy mills. The way to tell a brokerage from a responsible breeder is that the brokerage will have dozens of breeds that you can search for, it will have hundreds of puppies of each breed advertised and the puppies are located all over the map at many different breeders' places. A responsible breeder will usually have only 1 or 2 breeds that they breed and will only have a few dogs and few litters and puppies. The website will be for 1 breeder only and will show the parents of the puppies, and will show the puppies as they grow, not just 1 posed photo of the puppy.

Puppies' play time today

Today we learned how to get on and off the back deck all by ourselves today! We also learned how to wrestle and how to not get rolled on by the big dogs wrestling! We tasted the dirt, the wood chips and the lilly leaves. Mom made sure we didn't swalow anything though to make sure we didn't get sick! Time for a nap now!:)

Puppy Mills, How You Can Stop Them.

I'm surprised at how many people that I've met do not know this about pet store puppies-  90% of all petstore puppies come from puppy mills. The store will tell you that the dogs come from breeders; they may even believe that to be true because no puppy mill owner is going to tell the store that they are a puppy mill! They will assure the store owner that they are a good breeder, however; how many reponsible breeders do you know would sell a bunch of puppies to a store to be sold to goodness knows who? Responsible breeders hand pick the families that they place their puppies with and like to keep in contact with those families and puppies for their lifetime. The reason that good breeders do this is because they need the feedback information to use in planning future breedings in their programs. They need to know if there are any problems, to know if a dog needs to be removed from the breeding program. They need to know what their puppies turn out like when full grown so that they know what their breeding dogs are producing. Check out this article.

Starting crate training!

Well, the puppies cried so much when they went outside they went back in for nappies! Teddy got to go to the dog park though and meet some new friends. Poor Daisy doesn't get to go yet until the puppies have had shots and they are weaned. Another week or 2 and she will get to go too.
Puppies got new toys to put peanutbutter in for their crates! They sleep in 1 crate together with the door opened but now we are going to put them each in their own crate and try closing the door. I tried feeding them their dinner in there yesterday and they don't like the door closed much. They lasted a few minutes with the door opened and me there with them but after 1 minute of the door being closed, that was it! Try, try, again!:)
